The Metropolitan police on Friday issued clear CCTV images of four men wanted in connection with Thursday’s abortive attacks on London transport, as they called for the public’s assistance in the investigation.

Presenting the pictures of the suspects at a news conference, Andy Hayman, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan police, appealed for any information on the men’s whereabouts. He warned people not to approach them, but to call 999 and ask for Urgent Police Response.

Mr Hayman asked: “Do you recognise any of these men? Did you see them at the three underground stations or on the bus, or at a different location? Did you see them together or with anyone else?”

The first picture, remarkable for its clarity, showed a young shaven-headed man running through the Oval Tube station, wearing a dark blue top with the words ‘New York’ across the front. Mr Hayman said the top was recovered in Cowley Road, Brixton. The second picture, taken on the 26 bus in Hackney, showed a stocky man in a white cap wearing a grey tee shirt with an image of what looked like a palm tree. The images from Shepherd’s Bush and Warren Street showed two men in dark clothing, one bearded and one in a baseball cap.

Mr Hayman told the press conference that three addresses in the capital were being searched in connection with the “extremely fast moving investigation.”
